Portland has established itself as a central location for animation since the 1970s, with significant contributions from Laika Studios and ShadowMachine. The recent Animation: Script to Screen exhibition at the Lakewood Center for the Arts featured a showcase of stop motion techniques and numerous objects from popular films. The event included presentations from various renowned animators and was part of the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts. Local animator Bill Plympton presented his latest film, Slide, which he describes as a comedic Western filled with antagonistic characters.
Bill Plympton describes Slide as 'what if Mel Brooks became a cartoonist. It's a wacky musical Western comedy with probably more bad guys than any other film ever made.'
The Animation: Script to Screen exhibition showcased the diversity of styles within animation and included an array of presentations from acclaimed animators.
