Seamus Power posted a 65 after a 66 to remain in contention for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas. He led putting statistics on the first day at TPC Craig Ranch and continued to gain strokes on the greens, reaching six under 29 on the back nine. Starting at the 10th, he birdied multiple holes with putts from distances including nine feet, 15 feet, and 16 feet, then hit an 181-yard approach to 18 inches at 18 for another birdie. He missed two chances inside 15 feet but still gained more than two and a half strokes on the field on the greens through 36 holes. Si Woo Kim shot a 60 to lead by five strokes after a bogey at the 18th.
"Seamus Power produced another amazing performance in the greens to add a 65 to his opening 66 and remain in contention for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Texas. After topping the putting statistics on the opening day at TPC Craig Ranch near Dallas, the West Waterford man remained out in front in that department when he scorched to the turn in six under 29. Starting at the 10th, he birdied the 11th (9ft), 12th (15ft), 14th (9ft), 16th (16ft) and 17th (18ft) before hitting his 181-yard approach to 18 inches at the 18th and tapping in for birdie to turn in six under 29."
"While he missed two chances inside 15 feet on the back nine, Power still gained more than two and a half strokes on the field on the greens yesterday and leads that category through 36 holes. Power (39) couldn't pick up any more strokes in the trip home, but nine consecutive pars helped him end the day tied for 12th on 11-under-par."
"The Tooraneena man goes into today's third round just two shots off second place but seven strokes behind runaway leader Si Woo Kim. The South Korean needed a par at the 18th to shoot 59 but made bogey instead to sign for a sensational 60 and lead by five strokes from a five-man chasing pack that includes defending champion Scottie Scheffler on 18 under."
""I was joking there earlier," Scheffler said after carding a 63 that left him tied for second with Sungjae Im, Japan's Kensei Hirata, Wyndham Clark and Jackson Suber on 13-under. "I felt like I was hitting all my shots to 15, 20 feet, and Si Woo was hitting all his shots to like eight feet or closer. "Yeah, it was fun to watch. I was glad for myself to be able to kind of stay in the tournament. I made some nice putts there on the back nine, but it's always fun to watch Si Woo do his thing.""
