Sarasota illegal gambling bust leads to arrests
"Detectives say this case is part of a push targeting illegal gaming operations across the county. Several units inside the sheriff's office teamed up with the Florida Gaming Control Commission to investigate not just this location, but a wider network of suspected activity."
"Sheriff Kurt Hoffman said the arrests are one example of a continuing effort to shut down unauthorized gambling spots in the region. 'We will continue our partnership with FGCC holding these illegal gambling establishments accountable and shutting them down,' Hoffman said in a press release."
Sarasota County authorities dismantled an illegal gambling operation at Spin 24/7, arresting Mohamed Belyaqout and Mabielka C. Cumbrera. Both face charges for running an unlawful gambling house and possession of slot machines. Investigators executed a search warrant, seizing 66 slot machines and cash. The operation was part of a broader initiative targeting illegal gaming across the county, with multiple sheriff's office units collaborating with the Florida Gaming Control Commission. A cease-and-desist letter had been issued to the business over a year prior to the arrests.
