A rescue operation is underway in Pakistan's Balochistan province following the hijacking of the Jaffar Express train by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). The incident, which began with a blast, has so far led to the rescue of around 190 hostages, while approximately 130 remain captive. Amidst fierce fighting, 30 militants have been reported killed. The situation is complicated by the rugged terrain and claims that hostages are being used as human shields, raising significant concerns for civilian safety.
There was a huge blast. Everyone was scared and people were screaming and crying loudly. We laid down during the blasts.
The BLA has claimed that large numbers of those it is holding are military or police personnel, but the regional government has said that the hostages are mostly civilians.
The terrorists are using innocent people as human shields, an official told Radio Pakistan.
Officials claimed that by Wednesday about 30 militants had been killed, as military personnel launched an air and land offensive to take back control.
