Karen Weideman and her husband Michael visited Old Petrie Town in Queensland, Australia, where she captured poignant photographs amidst 1800s architecture. The picturesque town features various attractions, including markets and galleries, providing a delightful atmosphere for exploring. One specific photograph holds profound meaning for Weideman as her husband is currently battling stage 4 metastatic melanoma. The image evokes a sense of longing and emotion, illustrating her evolving feelings towards it as her husband's health changes.
Reflecting on this photo, I feel emotional, as my husband now battles stage 4 metastatic melanoma, and it feels as if he's trapped behind the glass.
I set out to create a melancholy mood but leave the story open to the viewer's interpretation; my feelings have changed with time.
The town is spread across 48 acres of parkland, and some of the buildings date back to the 1800s; we just love to wander around.
Michael is my biggest supporter; he has complete faith in whatever I'm trying to achieve, and is forever patient with my photography.
