Photographer Has $12K Worth of Camera Gear Stolen From Manhattan Bar
"He was right next to me, my bag was on my left, he then bent down four times to see if I would notice or if anyone else would notice. And then the fifth time he bent down, took my bag, and just goes. My stomach sank. I watched my whole bag, everything I've worked for just leave me."
"Maybe he saw that and thought there's something good in that bag. Elfstrom speculates whether the thief followed him into the bar since he had a tripod and a gimbal visible outside his camera bag, suggesting the visible equipment may have attracted the criminal's attention."
Eric Elfstrom had over $12,000 worth of camera equipment stolen from the Dead Rabbit bar in Lower Manhattan. While reviewing photos with a friend, a thief repeatedly bent down to test if anyone would notice before taking the bag on his fifth attempt. Elfstrom watched security footage showing the suspect fleeing down Water Street. The robber spent less than five minutes in the bar and likely targeted Elfstrom after seeing camera equipment outside. Police are investigating with bar security video. Though uninsured initially, Elfstrom's employer replaced the gear, now equipped with Apple AirTags. Friends established a GoFundMe page to support him.
