"Rooted in the tension between nature and artificiality, the installations pose questions about how we interact with the environment and how we might find equilibrium with it. All of my photographs strain credulity by design. At first blush, they can appear to be digital fabrications, but in truth, they are entirely in-camera, printed with minimal post-production."
"The undulating swathes of fabric in his ethereal photographs initially appear to float and drape on their own, almost superimposed onto various landscapes, but upon closer inspection, the images reveal taut strings holding the carefully layered sheets."
Thomas Jackson produces ethereal photographic installations featuring multi-colored fabric lengths that appear to float and drape across natural landscapes. His work deliberately strains credibility by appearing as digital fabrications, yet all images are created entirely in-camera with minimal post-production editing. Upon closer examination, taut strings reveal the carefully constructed nature of these layered textile compositions. Jackson's installations explore the tension between nature and human intervention, questioning how society interacts with the environment and seeks equilibrium with it. The work engages with themes of consumerism and artificiality while challenging viewers' initial perceptions. Currently, Jackson is developing a forthcoming book project and creating new work between major exhibitions.
