A recent study reveals that the sofa is the dirtiest place in homes, containing an astonishing average of 508,883 Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria (AMB) per 100cm squared. This figure is dramatically higher than the 6,800 AMB found on toilet seats. Researchers emphasize the importance of cleaning sofas, as they can accumulate bacteria from dead skin cells and food particles, posing health risks, especially for pet owners. Other common household items also showed concerning levels of bacteria but were comparatively cleaner than sofas.
According to research, the average sofa houses 508,883 Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria per 100cm squared, making it significantly dirtier than a toilet seat.
This study makes it clear that many common household items, particularly the sofa, can harbor bacteria that raise health concerns, especially for pet owners.
