Soleil, a six-year-old pitch-black Belgian Sheepdog, won Best in Show at the 2025 National Dog Show, prevailing over more than 1,900 dogs. Soleil remained calm amid activity as the crowd and handler Daniel Martin of Princeton, North Carolina accepted the award. Martin credited Soleil's attitude and movement for clinching the title. Soleil beat six other finalists from seven group categories and is part of the Herding Group. George, an American Foxhound from the Hound Group, won Reserve Best in Show. The American Kennel Club describes Belgian Sheepdogs as highly trainable herders who are bright, watchful and serious-minded, craving companionship and abhor neglect. The National Dog Show was founded in 1879, has run annually since 1933, has been televised since 2002, and drew an estimated 20 million viewers; additional behind-the-scenes contests included a barking contest.
