Monica Wylie was appointed deputy director of San Jose Animal Care and Services to oversee the Animal Care Center and its approximately 12,000 annual animals. Wylie has nearly 20 years of animal welfare experience, including six years as deputy director at the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County, and holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology plus certification in animal welfare administration. Previous achievements include reducing pets’ length of stay by 50% and raising the cat save rate above 90% through trap-neuter-release and foster programs. Wylie will help manage a $17.5 million budget and must implement audit recommendations to rebuild community trust.
