Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighbors face frequent dog-related issues and District 33 contained three times as many dogs as the citywide average in 2023. Volunteers from the McCarren, McGolrick, and Cooper dog runs formed North Brooklyn Dogs after recognizing shared problems: unsafe runs, drainage failures, persistent flooding, and inadequate municipal support. The collective is led by Piper Carty, Jaime Brooks, Sarah Hanson, Priyana Rikhy, Danielle Dorchester, Caoimhe Anglin, James Curry, and Miles Laff. City Parks owns the land but lacks day-to-day maintenance capacity, leaving sanitation and repairs to ad-hoc volunteer groups. The collective pooled fundraising, advocacy, technical, design, partnership, and rescue resources to push for essential improvements and greater NYC Parks support.
