A approximately 2-year-old male red fox, weighing 11 pounds, was discovered hiding in cargo aboard a ship that departed from Southampton, England. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found the fox upon the vessel's arrival at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The Wildlife Conservation Society transported the fox to the Bronx Zoo on February 19, where it was placed in the Animal Health Center. Initial veterinary examinations indicate the fox is in good condition. Veterinarians are conducting routine health screening tests. Once the fox receives a clear bill of health, officials will arrange a permanent home for the animal.
