A mountain lion cub, struck by a vehicle and left with severe injuries including a fractured skull, underwent nearly five months of rehabilitation at the San Diego Humane Society. The team's goal was to ensure he maintained wild instincts while receiving necessary medical care. Upon demonstrating recovery and natural survival behavior, he was released on June 17 in Orange County's Santa Ana Mountains. Two additional orphaned mountain lion cubs remain under the care of the humane society as they continue their rehabilitation.
The cub's rehabilitation process lasted nearly five months, emphasizing medical care while preserving its wild instincts for a successful reintroduction to the wild.
After nearly 150 days, the cub demonstrated vital survival behaviors and sufficient physical strength, leading to its release into the Santa Ana Mountains.
