Lawyer and animal activist creates pet memorial for the holidays
"Those mourning the loss of a pet can hang a commemorative item on a giant orb-shaped holly bush on the front lawn of lawyer Kelly Heitkamp's law office, located in Longview, Texas, according to coverage in the Longview News-Journal."
"Owners of fur babies, feathered friends and other beloved pets can be memorialized with a photo (preferably laminated), a collar or a toy."
""The purpose of the tree is for survivors to remember and celebrate their love and to share their loss and memory with others who understand that level of grief during this difficult time of year," wrote Heitkamp in an email."
Kelly Heitkamp, a Texas attorney and animal welfare activist, created a public holiday pet memorial on the front lawn of her law office in Longview, Texas. The display centers on a giant orb-shaped holly bush where grieving owners may hang commemorative items. Owners can memorialize fur babies, feathered friends, and other pets with a laminated photo, a collar, or a toy. The memorial enables survivors to remember and celebrate their love and to share loss and memory with others who understand that level of grief during the holidays. The concept was borrowed from a Central Park pet memorial, and the remembrance is open until Jan. 6.
