Heroic dog's nonstop barking saves Orange County family from fire, says owner
"Fillmore began barking urgently from his unlocked crate in the master bedroom, waking the Dalis family just in time to fight the flames before firefighters arrived."
"Eleni Dalis noted that Fillmore almost always sleeps through the night, stating, 'If he didn't wake us up, we would have lost the house.'"
"The family's garage was heavily damaged, with their three cars and two electric bikes becoming 'completely unrecognizable' due to the fire."
"After the fire, Fillmore was found hiding in the 90-year-old's bedroom, shaking, and was greeted by firefighters who recognized him as a hero."
Fillmore, a 3-year-old German shorthaired pointer, alerted the Dalis family to a garage fire in Tustin by barking urgently. The family woke up in time to fight the flames before firefighters arrived. Eleni Dalis initially thought Fillmore was reacting to a coyote but soon discovered the fire after seeing a red glow. They managed to spray the fire with garden hoses, preventing further damage. Fillmore, who usually sleeps through the night, was later found shaking in a bedroom after the incident.
