"Ridglan Farms was accused last fall of performing procedures that constituted animal mistreatment. The company has denied the allegations but agreed to sell the dogs to rescue organizations for an undisclosed amount."
A busload of beagles rescued from a Wisconsin research facility arrived in the Bay Area after traveling about 2,000 miles. The dogs were part of 1,500 beagles removed from Ridglan Farms. Rescue groups reported that the animals are beginning to experience basic comforts, including walking on grass and drinking from bowls. Volunteers described the arrival as emotional, with some dogs quiet, some happy, and others terrified. The beagles are being placed into homes across communities including San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento. The journey is described as the start of a new life, with gradual introductions to everyday experiences. Ridglan Farms denied allegations of mistreatment but agreed to sell the dogs to rescue organizations.
