After fireworks caused her dog to panic, a stranger offered them a ride home
"[It became] immediately clear he [was] sweet, playful, snuggly, protective and a total goofball, Friedman said."
"If he [had] his way [we would] stop and say hello to everyone on his route, especially kids. And he takes very seriously his responsibility to sing along with ambulance and fire engine sirens."
"I'm standing [there] ... just frozen and the fireworks keep going off. And I realized there is no way I can get the two of us home safely. 'I can't get him home safely.' 'Would it help if I walked you home? I can try to help control him.' 'I feel weird saying this, but yes, that would be helpful.'"
A couple adopted a nine-week-old Rottweiler puppy named The Dude and established a four-times-daily walking routine. The puppy proved sweet, playful, snuggly, protective and prone to enthusiastic interactions with people and sirens. During a late-evening walk, nearby fireworks triggered severe panic in the dog on slippery sidewalks, creating a risk of the owner being dragged. The owner froze, unable to safely lead the dog home alone. A passing stranger noticed the panic, stopped to comfort the dog, offered to walk them home, and began helping to control the dog.
