Wout van Aert outduels Tadej Pogacar to win his first Paris-Roubaix title
"It's everything to me, it's been a goal since I first did this race. I stopped believing a lot of times but I would start believing again the next day."
"Arriving for a final sprint with the world champion and beating him in a sprint is very special."
Wout van Aert won Paris-Roubaix, overcoming a decade-long jinx. He outperformed Tadej Pogacar in a challenging race marked by punctures and mechanical issues. Van Aert secured his second Monument classic title, having previously won Milan-Sanremo in 2020. Despite facing bad luck in past editions, he successfully countered Pogacar's attacks and finished with a strong sprint. Jasper Stuyven placed third, while Mathieu van der Poel, aiming for a fourth consecutive win, finished fourth due to mechanical problems. Van Aert dedicated his victory to former teammate Michael Goolaerts.
