This Iconic French Brand Is Launching Surfboards in Its Spring Collection-How to Get One
"Travel remains the brand's compass, Delafontaine explains, and this season, she imagined a Longchamp muse "gliding from spring into summer, seduced by the rhythm of the waves and the warmth of the sun on her skin." The surfboard captures that spirit of escape."
"We not only had to be visually aligned with Longchamp's identity, but also ensure the boards were technically legitimate in the water," Cardinal says. "It was a true collaboration between their creative vision and our shaping expertise.""
"Each board is crafted from basswood, a material long favored in high-end surfboard construction. While foam boards dominate the sport, basswood offers more stability, durability, and a tactile quality that speaks to surfing's early history."
Longchamp, the Parisian fashion house renowned for leather travel bags and Le Pliage totes, launched its inaugural surfboard collection in collaboration with Shapers Club, a workshop on France's Atlantic coast. Only 40 boards were produced worldwide, with two available in the United States. The project anchors the Spring/Summer collection titled "Catch the Parisian Wave," developed by creative director Sophie Delafontaine, granddaughter of founder Jean Cassegrain. The collection emphasizes travel and escape, featuring a muse gliding through seasons seduced by ocean rhythms. Each board is crafted from basswood, a premium material favored in high-end surfboard construction, offering superior stability and durability compared to foam alternatives. The collaboration balanced Longchamp's aesthetic vision with Shapers Club's technical expertise to create boards that are both visually aligned with the brand's identity and functionally legitimate for water use.
