Park Chan-Wook Got Some Jokes
Park Chan-Wook served on the Cannes Film Festival jury and showed humor during a post-closing ceremony panel. The jury president noted the difficulty of leading the voting committee while being away from phones during the morning. Chan-Wook joked that leaving was not about getting phones back. Award decisions proved challenging, including selecting best director and best actress, which led to ties and multiple winners from the same film. He said both director nominees did an amazing job and the jury could not decide which was better. When discussing the Palme d'Or, he reminded viewers he had previously won other Cannes prizes but never the Palme d'Or. He said he did not want to give the Palme d'Or to any films because he had never received it, then added that he had no other choice.
"Chan-Wook took it as a chance to remind everyone that while he's won the Grand Prix, Best Director, and the Jury Prize, he's never won a Palme d'Or. "I didn't want to give the Palme d'Or to any of the films because it's an award that I've never gotten," he said, before leaving everyone with one final joke. "But I had no other choice.""
