Jane Birkin's original Hermes handbag to be sold at auction in Paris
Briefly

A unique prototype of the Le Birkin handbag, crafted for Jane Birkin, will be auctioned in Paris, anticipated to garner a six-figure price. This iconic piece, used by Birkin for nine years and marked with her own stickers, is noted for its uniqueness, not being the final version commonly known today. The creation of the Le Birkin stemmed from a chance meeting between Birkin and Hermes director Jean-Louis Dumas in 1984, leading to a collaborative design. Birkin's last auction of this bag was for charity in 1994.
The prototype is a one-off. There is no other bag like it in the world.
Birkin's chance encounter with Jean-Louis Dumas led to the creation of Le Birkin, a legendary fashion tale.
