This midwife-led clinic is being called a 'safety net' for parents and newborns | CBC News

Toronto's Family and Newborn Clinic at Michael Garron Hospital offers critical support to new parents seven days a week, accommodating both those who birthed at the hospital and local families. The midwife-led initiative seeks to fill significant gaps in postpartum care, previously underserved in the east end. Over 300 families have benefitted since its opening, yet clinic leaders emphasize the pressing need for similar services across all communities to ensure comprehensive care for new parents and babies in their first weeks postpartum.
"We should have these in every community. Every parent who's giving birth should have access to comprehensive postpartum care," she told CBC Toronto.
"It's definitely a first for the east end of Toronto," Lockhart said.
The Family and Newborn Clinic, led by midwives, is providing essential support to new parents and their babies in a mainly underserved area.
The clinic offers low-risk families the option of early hospital discharge with midwife visits up to two days postpartum.
