There's a Trick to Getting Smiling Kids in Family Photos ... And It's at the Grocery Store
"My kids were overtired, overdone. It was super late. It was about to be their bedtime,"
"I had my husband go upstairs and get them ice cream. We fed them ice cream just to get them to cooperate, and then it just turned into so much fun!"
"My youngest was 13 months at that time, and she just never had ice cream before, so it was like a novelty to her. And then the other two were just laughing, getting scoops continuously from my husband so I could get a cool picture for my clients to see what I was offering them."
"Her youngest son, he never smiles like the way she wants him to smile. He always like curls his lip under. You know how kids do that?"
Family photographer Allison Burriss faced pressure to capture promotional shots while her three children were overtired and nearing bedtime. She had her husband bring and spoon-feed ice cream to the kids to secure cooperation, which transformed the session into playful, candid moments. The youngest, 13 months, experienced ice cream for the first time and reacted with novelty, while the older children laughed and kept getting scoops. Burriss posted the footage on Instagram; one session received about 700,000 views and a client session later received over 12 million views. Viewers responded with affectionate comments and many parents adopted the ice-cream tactic for photos.
