A recent incident in Rotterdam, where a child scratched a Mark Rothko painting, prompted the author to reflect on personal responsibility as a parent and the varying perceptions of art. The emotional response to Rothko's work is profound for some but leaves others indifferent or hostile, showcasing a divide in appreciation for modern art. Instead of having humility...they can be a bit crotchety and defensive.
