"To make a long story short, Travis and some of his friends stole a bag of candy from a 10-year-old kid. The kid and his mom showed up at our door at the end of the night and told Jodi that Travis had stolen the kid's candy. Jodi made Travis give it back and apologize, which I think was fair, but then she gave the kid Travis's candy, too!"
"My oldest child had his feelings hurt by some mean-spirited 7-year-old at Little League all-star tryouts last year. It turned out the kid was the son of the coach who ran the whole thing and didn't intervene or discipline his kid for being a dick. When I found out who the guy was, I had to take a long walk because I was having very intense Henry Hill-style revenge fantasies that were disproportionate to whatever happened on that field."
A 14-year-old named Travis and friends stole a bag of candy from a 10-year-old. The victim and his mother confronted the family that night. Jodi required Travis to return the stolen candy and apologize, then additionally gave the victim Travis's candy. The child's father felt that gift was excessive and would have preferred grounding. Jodi defended the action as a necessary lesson. Another parent recounts personal hypersensitivity to bullying from being tormented in middle school and describes a past incident where a coach's son hurt his oldest; that parent had revenge fantasies but ultimately let it go and empathizes with teaching a lesson.
