A family's move to Germany for work has strengthened their family bonds while creating a distance from US relatives. Growing up near extended family in Maryland enabled frequent gatherings, which the individual sought to replicate as a parent. The overseas opportunity provided time to be more present with children, reflecting on the flexibility of their own upbringing. Experiences shared with children include fun school events and unique adventures, like a recent trip to Norway where the family engaged in local culinary traditions.
