Lottie Weaver, a mother of three in Arizona, sometimes gives her children answers to homework problems to avoid after-school battles and preserve family evenings. She notes that children have already spent seven hours at school, completed work, and been on their best behavior before returning home with homework. Weaver says children often become antsy, frustrated, or lose steam halfway through assignments, so she occasionally supplies answers or helps with projects. She reports that her children generally behave well and earn good grades and that she wants to prevent homework dread. The confession sparked debate among teachers, with some urging parents to let children complete work independently.
"I have a confession to make - and if you're my kids' school teacher, just keep swiping," Weaver said in her video. "After the kids have been at school all day, done their work, been on their best behavior and they come home with homework, sometimes I give them the answers to their homework."
"You can tell, she starts to get antsy toward the end, she's starting to get frustrated," Weaver said in the video, adding, "So, the last four or five questions, I just gave her the frickin' answers."
"A lot of times, I do a lot of the projects because as a kid, that's a lot, and that's hard. Our job as parents is to help them - some may disagree, but I don't really care."
