To prevent scarring from cuts and scrapes in children, proper cleaning and treatment are essential. Use soap and water for cleaning instead of peroxide, then apply an antibiotic ointment like Bacitracin followed by a bland occlusive ointment after a few days. Moisturization is key to avoiding scabs, and fun Band-Aids can deter picking at wounds. For cuts, skin glue may work for superficial injuries, while deeper cuts require stitches, Band-Aids, and ointments. Suture removal typically occurs after five to seven days, depending on the child's age and injury type.
When my kids get cuts and scrapes, I wash with soap and water, not peroxide, to clean the area. Pat dry and use an antibiotic occlusive ointment like Bacitracin. Peroxide does not promote quick healing and is uncomfortable for the kids.
Try to keep them moisturized with ointments to keep from getting a scab for best healing. The best you can, try to keep them from picking at it with fun Band-Aids.
