Hoda Kotb stepped away from her role as co-anchor on 'Today' earlier this year to focus on her daughter Hope's health, as Hope has Type 1 diabetes. Kotb explained the challenges of constant monitoring required for a child with the condition, stating she needed to be present for her daughter's needs. Despite her busy schedule at NBC, she realized the importance of being there for her child, emphasizing that her decision didn't stem solely from Hope's condition but was driven by the need for family care.
"As anyone with a child who has Type 1 (knows), especially a little kid, you're constantly watching, you're constantly monitoring, you're constantly checking, which is what I did all the time when I was at 'Today.' You're distracted."
"You just get a priority check in your life. I can be here and sweating what's happening to Hope in the morning and in the night, or I can be there and feel relief that I can see."
