Colin Farrell recently shared insights about placing his son James, who has Angelman syndrome, in a long-term care facility. In an interview, Farrell explained the challenges of parenting a child with disabilities, especially concerning future uncertainty. He and his ex, Kim Bordenave, aim to find a supportive environment for James now so they can oversee his care together. Farrell emphasized the need for James to enjoy a fulfilling life through various activities. He also highlighted his efforts to advocate for other families facing similar challenges through the Colin Farrell Foundation, established in honor of his son.
I respect parents who choose to take care of their special needs child themselves, but I worry about what would happen if something happened to us.
We want him to find somewhere where he can have a full and happy life, connected, involving everyday activities like going to the supermarket or the beach.
Once your child turns 21, they're on their own, and all the protections like special education disappear, leaving them without support.
