Sean and his husband, Scotty, have not had children because neither is fully certain they want them, believing being 85% sure would be unfair to a child. Another perspective notes that pregnancy's nine months can give prospective parents time to adjust to the idea of raising a child before it begins. The view is that parenthood should be pursued only with absolute certainty and that societal pressure on child-free people is misplaced. The invasive questioning of child-free choices should be reversed to ask why people want children.
