Briefly

Oregon Humanities filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump Administration after the termination of National Endowment for the Humanities grants. The hearing took place on August 4, with Judge Michael Simon presiding but not making an immediate ruling. Adam Davis, the Executive Director, expressed confidence in their case. The legal arguments focused on violations of separation of powers due to the terminations affecting Oregon Humanities and 55 other state humanities councils. The significance of the humanities was emphasized as essential to societal cohesion by lawyer Anna Sortum.
"The humanities are more important than ever. They are the fabric that holds our society together," said Tonkin Torp lawyer Anna Sortum during her opening statement.
Oregon Humanities filed a federal lawsuit on May 15 alleging the termination of National Endowment for the Humanities grants was illegal, joined by the Federation of State Humanities Councils.
