This winter, Ontario students faced unprecedented snow days, missing nearly a month of school in some areas due to closed schools and canceled buses. With over 830,000 children relying on these bus services, the impact on education has raised concerns among educators. Christopher Walkling noted that while the number of snow days was higher recently, it doesn't reach record levels. Joshua Goodman’s research suggests that snow days in Massachusetts had little effect on learning, yet the current statistics in Ontario indicate significant challenges for students as they rush to complete the curriculum before year's end.
"It certainly presents challenges to learning," said Christopher Walkling, a principal with the Near North District School Board. The number of snow days this year was higher than in recent years."
Joshua Goodman, an associate professor at Boston University observed, 'these figures are extraordinarily high,' commenting on the recent snow days impact on student success.
