Limestone University, facing potential closure or a shift to online-only offerings, has received news of a tentative funding possibility that may allow it to remain open. The Board of Trustees chose to postpone decisions regarding the university's future as they await more information about this potential financial support. Officials express cautious optimism about the future, while university president Nathan Copeland emphasizes the need for community patience amid ongoing uncertainty and the caution required in their planning. The discussion of closure has significant implications as 478 employees could be affected.
"This possible funding solution has us all cautiously optimistic about the future of Limestone as both an in-person and online educator," said Randall Richardson.
Limestone president Nathan Copeland acknowledged the difficulty of announcing potential closure but emphasized the community's support in seeking donors.
Copeland stated, "In the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, we need to move forward as if our on-campus activities are ending at the end of this semester."
Randall Richardson noted, "Last week, we were at the brink of a possible closure or transition to online-only classes."
