Wikipedia Is Giving Academic Resources New Life Online
Briefly

This spring, New York City's pioneering travel training program for individuals with disabilities was documented on Wikipedia, highlighting its significance in the 1970s. Patrick McGee, a graduate student, emphasized the lack of representation for such vital information online. The project was developed under the guidance of Richard Knipel, CUNY's first Wikimedian in residence. This initiative aims to harness expertise from CUNY to enrich Wikipedia's content, making important historical narratives more accessible to the public.
Until this spring, the story of how New York City launched the first "travel training" program for people with disabilities in the 1970s was nowhere to be found on Wikipedia.
Patrick McGee, an information studies and history graduate student at Queens College, knew from wading through primary and secondary sources about disability advocacy and the travel training program.
It's not something that's well represented on the internet. The hope is that by writing an article about travel training, we can make this more widely known as a success.
Richard Knipel, the City University of New York's first Wikimedian in residence, is working with faculty, students and staff to incorporate CUNY's expertise into Wikipedia.
