The Skakkeringen project, part of Vestland County's initiative, has transformed a fenced asphalt area into a vibrant 2000 m2 activity park near the Skakke Cultural Center in Etne, Norway. Designed by LOCAL and PIR2, it features flexible spaces that accommodate various community events, green areas for relaxation, and a continuous pathway for accessibility. This innovative concept emphasizes open schoolyards, encouraging public use day and night. Additionally, community input shaped the project, ensuring it meets the needs of local youth while fostering a sense of belonging across generations.
The Skakkeringen project aims to create a vibrant public square that transforms a previously fenced area into a dynamic space for community engagement and activities.
