The thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum will be held in Baku from May 17 to 22, 2026, co-organized by UN-Habitat and the Government of Azerbaijan. The forum theme is “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.” The event brings together architects, planners, policymakers, researchers, local governments, and civil society organizations to address challenges shaping contemporary urban environments. Hosted for the first time in the Caucasus region, the forum focuses on the global housing crisis and the role of housing in inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban development. Nearly 3 billion people experience housing inadequacy, more than 1.1 billion live in informal settlements or slums, and over 300 million face homelessness. Housing is positioned as a framework for climate adaptation, inequality reduction, infrastructure improvement, governance strengthening, and long-term urban resilience. The forum will contribute to the 2026 New Urban Agenda progress reporting and is expected to host 30,000 participants, with nearly 25,000 registered from 178 countries. Activities include dialogues, assemblies, ministerial meetings, exhibitions, networking events, partner-led sessions, and an Urban Expo showcasing innovations and design.
