
More than €600,000 in Community Climate Action Programme funding will support 23 projects across County Mayo. The funding will help community groups deliver local climate action initiatives that reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability. The programme supports organisations as they grow while aligning with Mayo County Council climate targets. Eight sporting organisations receive funding under the latest CCAP allocation. Moy Davitts GAA Club receives €95,225 for a sustainability upgrade including clubhouse insulation, solar PV panels, and LED lighting, plus pitch maintenance equipment, gear-swap infrastructure, bicycle repair and parking facilities, and reusable club bottles. Toreen Hurling Club receives €73,000 for clean energy, circular practices, biodiversity, water efficiency, and active travel, including solar panels, greenhouse and garden structures, community garden groundworks, bicycle racks, and hurl repair workshop materials. Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club receives €56,500 for an active travel project funding a cycle lane and pedestrian walkway.

"The largest allocation was awarded to Moy Davitts GAA Club, which secured €95,225 for a major sustainability upgrade designed to reduce electricity usage and embed circularity and active travel across the club. Works at the club will include insulation of the clubhouse, installation of solar PV panels and a full LED lighting upgrade. Measures funded as part of the programme include efficiency-focused pitch maintenance equipment, gear-swap infrastructure, a bicycle repair stand, five bicycle stands, and 250 reusable 600ml branded club bottles."
"Elsewhere, Toreen Hurling Club received €73,000 for a multi-theme project focused on clean energy, circular practices, biodiversity, water efficiency, and active travel. The funding will provide solar panels for two community buildings, along with a polycarbonate greenhouse and garden shed. Groundworks will also be carried out for a community garden featuring raised beds, ground beds and a composting area. Two bicycle racks will also be installed, while materials will be supplied for a hurl repair workshop."
