Food Bank celebrates 30 years
""People who live here care about food insecurity and don't want people to be without food...the mission is to not only feed our neighbors, but also to do so with integrity and respect and honor.""
""They have a chance to take choices that they might like from our community choice room. They get to go to the pharmacy, which has all sorts of baby food and diapers and adult care.""
""I think it's important on many different levels for the young adults in the community to see that they can make a difference.""
""This place is my happy place and it has just been amazing for me. It's breathtaking what people will do for other people and I'm always happy when I'm here.""
Since 1995, volunteers in Media, Pennsylvania, have been dedicated to combating food insecurity. The Media Food Bank, located in First Church, distributes food twice weekly, serving around 250 families. Residents can choose items from a community choice room and access a pharmacy for baby food, diapers, and adult care. RISE Community Support Services involves young adults with disabilities in the food bank, fostering community engagement. Participants express joy and fulfillment in helping others, highlighting the positive impact of community support and volunteerism.
