Jason Citron, the CEO and co-founder of Discord, has announced his departure from the leadership role, handing the reins to Humam Sakhnini, formerly of Activision Blizzard. Citron will remain on the board, while co-founder Stanislav Vishnevskiy continues as CTO. This leadership change comes amid plans for a potential public offering for the social platform, which now claims over 200 million monthly active users globally. Citron believes Sakhnini's extensive experience as a leader of public companies makes him well-suited for this new chapter in Discord's evolution.
From the very beginning, our mission has been about bringing people together around games. It's a mission I've dedicated my career to, and I'm confident that passing the torch to Humam is the right evolution for Discord's future.
As you can imagine, hiring someone like Humam is a step in that direction [toward going public].
