NASA's SPHEREx space telescope has begun its mission to map the entire sky in 3D
Briefly

The SPHEREx space observatory has commenced its mission to map the entire sky over the next 25 months following its launch in early March. After completing initial setup and system checks, it is now capturing approximately 3,600 images daily across 102 wavelengths of infrared light. This extensive survey will enable researchers to study the universe's expansion after the Big Bang and search for life-sustaining ingredients in the Milky Way. By orbiting Earth and observing all areas of the sky, SPHEREx aims to create four all-sky maps during its mission.
SPHEREx's launch marks the beginning of a comprehensive 25-month survey designed to enhance our understanding of the early universe through infrared light observations.
With SPHEREx, researchers aim to examine the universe's expansion post-big bang and explore the essential components for life throughout the Milky Way.
