The spring downtime at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) is a vital period for maintenance and upgrades. During this two-week shutdown, staff execute essential tasks such as installing X-ray mirrors, redesigning plumbing, and fitting a prototype wiggler, all critical for enhancing the facility's capabilities. A significant focus has been on the High Magnetic Field beamline, which combines advanced X-ray techniques and high magnetic fields to address fundamental research questions, with first user access expected by early 2026.
We are bringing very strong attracting magnets within ~150 microns of the thin wall section on both sides of the beam pipe. Misalignment could mean crushing/piercing the chamber...
