Astronomers have discovered ASKAP J1832-0911, a cosmic entity emitting both radio waves and X-rays every 44 minutes, for two minutes at a time. This long-period transient (LPT) is unprecedented in emitting X-rays and poses challenges to current scientific theories. Dr. Andy Wang's team utilized the ASKAP radio telescope and correlated its findings with those of NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. The phenomenon's location in a dense star region and its unique behavior suggest it may represent an entirely new class of astronomical objects, prompting further exploration and understanding of cosmic occurrences.
Currently, no clear explanation accounts for the signals emitted by ASKAP J1832-0911. This challenges existing rules of physics and suggests it may be a new class of object.
"Discovering ASKAP J1832-0911 was like finding a needle in a haystack," said Dr. Wang, highlighting the rarity of discovering such a cosmic phenomenon.
