Marcea Hennecke, a philanthropist focused on journalism, good government, and climate solutions, has joined the Poynter Foundation Board. She co-chairs the Hennecke Family Foundation supporting climate change initiatives, serves as vice chair of Ruth's List Florida promoting women in politics, and as secretary of Florida Watch holding leaders accountable. Hennecke believes democracy depends on truth found through journalism. She recognizes that while local philanthropy matters, Poynter scales tools, standards, and training to strengthen newsrooms globally. Her diverse career includes political speechwriting, founding a marketing firm in the Netherlands, and co-owning a drug development company. The Poynter Foundation Board chair praised her commitment to strengthening journalism and newsroom capacity.
