The Trump administration's plan to reduce the federal workforce has led to the early discharge of over 2,000 young volunteers from AmeriCorps' National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). Volunteers, typically ages 18 to 26, undertake critical community service and disaster relief projects across the U.S. Due to the administration's budget cuts, participants were informed about their premature exit from the program via an email. The decision has left many volunteers feeling unappreciated, as they had dedicated themselves to vital service roles, particularly in response to natural disasters.
Jordan Kinsler, a young volunteer, expressed disappointment about being discharged from AmeriCorps, stating, "To have this ripped right from us at the very end felt insulting."
The National Civilian Community Corps faced early discharges of young volunteers due to 'programmatic circumstances,' a consequence of the administration's efforts to shrink government services.
