Building futures: If it wasn't for Blueprint for All, I'd never have become an architect'
"With its mission statement talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not', the charity supports thousands of young people aged 16 to 30, providing the resources, networks and support needed to unlock their potential and helping them pursue careers in industries where representation is still lacking. Its Building Futures programme, which focuses specifically on increasing diversity in the built environment, is now celebrating its 10th anniversary."
"After I graduated, I'd quite a big pause when I was still knocking on a few doors and seeing what I could do. I joined the Building Futures programme and got a mentor who I would meet up with monthly to enable me to stay engaged with the profession and keep developing my skills. I also worked on my portfolio and additional side projects. I am now supporting a small architecture practice for a few days a week, working from home."
Blueprint for All, founded in 1998 as the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, aims to create a society where everyone, regardless of background, can thrive. With the mission 'talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not', the organisation supports thousands of young people aged 16 to 30 by providing resources, networks and support to unlock potential and pursue careers in under-represented industries. The Building Futures programme focuses on increasing diversity in the built environment and is celebrating its 10th anniversary, recently marked with an event alongside the London Festival of Architecture. Beneficiaries include Jubilee Ayuba Cabalar, a trainee architect supporting a small practice, and Oscar Wokowu, a principal architect at Jacobs.
