The New York Yankees have recalled right-handed pitcher Scott Effross for his season debut, optioning left-hander Brent Headrick to Triple-A. Effross, who was acquired from the Cubs at the 2022 trade deadline, has faced numerous injuries, including Tommy John surgery and back surgery. He has only pitched 3.1 innings in the MLB since 2022. Meanwhile, Headrick, who provided multi-inning relief, has been sent down after pitching 13.1 innings over eleven games. The Yankees also released lefty Brandon Leibrandt in a separate move.
Effross was initially acquired from the Cubs at the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline for Hayden Wesneski, and he pitched to a 2.13 ERA (190 ERA+) and 3.43 FIP.
Effross came into camp healthy this year but suffered a Grade 2 left hamstring strain that kept him on the shelf for much of the first couple months.
Following last night's game, the Yankees optioned LHP Brent Headrick to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Additionally, the Yankees have released LHP Brandon Leibrandt.
