"The 26-year-old southpaw will join a rotation that includes Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Gerrit Cole and Cam Schlittler. And while Weathers could develop into a reliable piece of their rotation, some fans are overly excited by dreaming on his future success against the AL East based off his one start against the Blue Jays from September of 2024. Which is an incredibly sad comparison to make for said Yankees fans."
"The twitter account Everything Yankees posted a video of Weathers' start in which he carved up the Blue Jays lineup. To his credit he went 6.1 innings with six strikeouts. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks. In the video below you can see he had everything working and made the Blue Jays' hitters look foolish on some of his pitches."
New York acquired left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins for four prospects. The 26-year-old southpaw will join a rotation with Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Gerrit Cole and Cam Schlittler. Some Yankees fans are projecting big success based largely on Weathers' one September 2024 start against Toronto. In that outing he worked 6.1 innings, struck out six, allowed one run on three hits and two walks. The Blue Jays used a heavily altered, largely minor-league roster that day, including multiple call-ups and backups. With Toronto healthier in 2026, that single performance offers limited predictive value for AL East matchups.
