This Day in Braves History: Michael Harris II starts incredible double play to tie 2023 NLDS
"2005 - The Houston Astros defeat the Atlanta Braves, 7 - 6, in extra innings in Game 4 of the NLDS, on a walk-off homer by substitute Chris Burke. The game sets several records, including the longest postseason game ever at 18 innings, longest postseason game by time (5 hours, 50 minutes), and first postseason game with two grand slams. Houston will now advance to the National League Championship Series for the second year in a row to face the NL Champion St. Louis Cardinals."
"Travis d'Arnaud chases Wheeler with a two-run homer in the 7th, and Austin Riley does the same against Jeff Hoffman in the 8th. CF Michael Harris ends the game when he robs Nick Castellanos of extra-bases with a running catch, then fires back to the infield to catch Bryce Harper before he can return to first base. The 5 - 4 Braves win evens the series."
Postseason history features dramatic comebacks, record-setting games, and standout pitching and defense. In 1958 Bob Turley threw 6 2/3 shutout innings in relief as the New York Yankees beat the Milwaukee Braves, becoming the first team since 1925 to win the World Series after trailing three games to one. The 2005 Houston Astros won an 18-inning NLDS Game 4 on Chris Burke's walk-off, setting multiple postseason records. In 2019 the Cardinals scored ten first-inning runs to win Game 5. Max Fried delivered six shutout innings in a 2021 Division Series win. A 2023 Braves comeback featured clutch homers and Michael Harris's game-ending defensive play. Christy Mathewson outpitched 26-game winner Eddie Plank.
