Spencer Jones, a top prospect in the New York Yankees system, received a promotion to Triple-A and made an impressive debut by hitting a home run on his first at-bat. His promotion followed a standout performance in which he secured a walk-off win for the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Jones celebrated with teammates during an announcement, and in his first game with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, he contributed to their 4-2 victory while also making a notable catch in center field.
Jones found out he was being promoted Thursday night, shortly after he had the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Double-A Somerset Patriots a 4-3 victory over the Erie SeaWolves, affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
I get here and see a lot of people who are excited to have me. It's just been awesome.
Off the bat, I didn't read it well. Kind of tough to see, just tried to do some makeup speed at the end and do a little sliding play.
Got a pitch out to straightaway center field, over the 408-foot sign, for a home run that cut the RailRiders deficit in half, 2-1.
